Veterinary Diagnostics: Digital Radiography, Ultrasound, and Lab Tests

The best doctor in the world is the veterinarian. He can't ask his patients what is the matter—he's got to just know.

–Will Rogers

As veterinarians, we are always challenged to treat patients who cannot tell us what their symptoms are. We rely heavily on physical examinations, observations made by pet owners, and a diagnostic tool set that includes digital imaging technology and laboratory testing. Blue Ridge Animal Hospital is committed to using the most effective equipment and knowledge available when diagnosing medical conditions in your pet.

Veterinary Ultrasound & Digital X-rays

When a physical examination isn’t enough for a diagnosis, our team may take a closer look at your pet’s internal systems using digital radiography (X-rays) or ultrasound. These technologies enable our veterinarians to look inside your pet’s body to pinpoint the cause of an illness, locate an injured area, and detect abnormalities. While X-rays are used to create detailed images of bones (including your pet’s teeth), ultrasound will be called for whenever your veterinarian needs to take a close look at organs, muscle tissue, and other fibers.

The advantages of digital X-ray over traditional film technology are many, including clearer images and significantly faster results, enabling our team to diagnose a health problem in your pet as quickly as possible. We are also able to share digital images very easily, and will email your pet’s X-ray results to you so you may view them more closely.
